Dear Hadi Susilo Arifin,
I attended your presentation at the IALE Symposium in Beijing.
I am a French Landscape Planner and currently Visiting Researcher in a
Environmental Ethics Laboratory in Tokyo (as well Architecture & Landscape Lab. in Paris).
I will contact you soon in order to know more about the subject you presented. Your presentation was extremely impressive. I am working on a Political Philosophy of Landscape approach and your ideas about Ordinary behavior in Indonesia (similar, not to satoyama, but to inhabitant behaviour how Japanese citizen manage their small piece of land…could a good subject) is very interesting. Especially how you presented your Carbon theory to simple garden project was very Impressive for me. (I worked one year in Singapore with many
Indonesian friends…love your food!).

All the best & Keep and touch,
Alban Mannisi

Dear Hadi,

How are you? It was nice meeting you indeed in Beijing.
Don’t forget the paper on Indonesia’s cultural landscape which is like satoyama.

I am enclosing one of my papers on satoyama published in an ISI journal.

Hope to see you again in Bogor hopefully.

Subject: [mf-global] Last reminder: Call for case studies on mountain biodiversity
initiatives in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas (Deadline extended till 10 Sept 2010)

[Please feel free to disseminate the following message to your colleagues or/and
friends working in the thematic area of mountain biodiversity in the Hindu Kush
Himalayas]

Dear Mountain Forum colleague,

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) has been
collecting case studies on mountain biodiversity-related initiatives (with focus on
success stories) in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan (HKH) region for some time now. We've
received some excellent case studies from China, India and Nepal in particular - we
would love to hear from the other five HKH countries, namely Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

The mountain biodiversity related initiative you wish to do a case study on must
have been implemented somewhat successfully in a mountain area (or mountain areas)
of one or more of the abovementioned eight HKH countries. The initiative can be a
project or programme or even an activity or a set of activities, either completed or
ongoing.

Selected case studies will be published in book form sometime this year to mark the
UN Int'l Year of Biological Diversity 2010 as well as to draw the attention of
policymakers and practitioners working in this thematic area.

For details, including the conditions for participation as well as the template of
the case study (find attached), please visit
http://www.icimod.org/?page=1178

The deadline for submitting your case study(ies) has been extended till 10 September
2010.

The top four case studies, as judged by a panel of experts, will be awarded small
cash prizes and certificates.

If you have any queries or seek further clarification, please feel free to write to
us at any time.

Best regards,

Ujol Sherchan
on behalf of the
ICIMOD Case Study Team
