ABSTRACT
Karangasem District is located in the most eastern part of Bali island with the size 839.54 Km², and with the number of population recorded to be as many as 457,204 people. The administrative regions consisting of 8 districts, 78 villages. Geographically, Karangasem District is dominated by dry land as much as 91.48%, which means only 8.52% is accounted as the wet land. Around 50.61% of the population lead their lives as farmers; thus, the government of Karangasem prioritizes its policy on agriculture. One of the existing cultural heritages is the Traditional Village of Bugbug. Bugbug Village has a scenic nature, ranging from hills, low lands, and beaches. It is also rich in bio-diversity with traditional system of agriculture management based on the local wisdom. Such a system has been adapted with knowledge and technology, has a traditional agriculture institution, such as “subak” and “abian” or “sayan”, and fisherman groups to manage integrated agriculture. Integrated agriculture includes farming, estates, forestry, fishery, and tourism. Such integrated system is expected to be able to create strong and cultured sustainable agricultural systems. They have been conserving the agro-biodiversity due to not only for producing food in order to keep food security, but they have to provide a daily praying and offering materials, which consist of plants, flowers, fruits, meats production for “canang” or “banten”.

P4W LPPM IPB Gelar Konferensi Internasional MegacitiesPusat Pengkajian Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Wilayah Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (P4W LPPM) Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) bekerjasama dengan Research Institute For Humanity and Nature (RIHN) mengadakan The 5th International Conference of Jabodetabek Study Forum, Selasa (17/3). Konferensi yang mengambil tema “Sustainable Megacities: Vulnerability, Diversity and Livability” ini dilaksanakan di IPB International Convention Center (IICC) Bogor.Konferensi internasional ini dibuka secara resmi oleh Rektor IPB, Prof.Dr Herry Suhardiyanto. Dalam sambutannya beliau menyampaikan bahwa megacity identik dengan banyak masalah yang berhubungan langsung dengan manusia seperti kejahatan, tuna wisma hingga polusi.  Untuk itu dalam mengelola megacity dibutuhkan penanganan khusus. “Semoga dengan konferensi ini peserta dapat berdiskusi secara mendalam dalam pengelolaan megacity ini,” jelas rektor.Pertemuan ini turut menghadirkan Menteri Agraria dan Perencanaan Tata Ruang RI, Ferry Mursyidan Baldan sebagai keynote speaker. Menteri menjelaskan tentang Jabodetabek sebagai area yang terintegrasi. “Alasan mengapa pengelolaan Jabodetabek selama ini belum berhasil adalah karena pengembangan itu dilakukan oleh masing-masing Pemerintah Daerah (Pemda) yang memiliki cita-cita sendiri. Oleh karena itu kita perlu menyamakan persepsi bahwa Jabodetabek adalah suatu kesatuan area yang terhubung, agar dapat mengelolanya secara utuh,” paparnya.Kegiatan ini didesain tidak hanya untuk kalangan akademisi saja, tetapi juga untuk kalangan praktisi seperti komunitas, diantaranya Komunitas Save Puncak, Rungkun Awi, Komunitas Peduli Ciliwung (KPC) Gadog, KPC Bogor, Cilebut, Bojong Gede, Depok dan Condet serta Ciliwung Institute. Pembicara yang hadir dalam kegiatan ini antara lain Prof. Shin Muramatsu dari Reseacrh Institute for Humanities and Nature, serta Prof. Stephen Cairns dari Singapore-ETH Centre, Future Cities Laboratory.
