Speaker: Prof.Dr.Mustafa VAR – Department of Landscape Architecture – Vice Dean, Faculty of Forestry  – Karadeniz Technical University/Trabzon TURKIYE

Topic: Landscape and Landscape Architecture in Turkey

Participants: Bachelor, Master and Doctor students from Study Programs of Landscape Architecture, Agronomy, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, and Silviculture/Forestry – Graduate School – IPB.

 

Prof. Mustafa VAR is a colleague of Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin since they were in the same laboratory during in Okayama University, Japan (1995-1998).

Prof. Mustafa is a consultant for planning and design of botanical gardens in Turkey. For 10 years, he has been observing botanical gardens in the term of their design technics. In this early February 2012, he had got trip to Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia for taking a comparative study on several botanical gardens in South East Asia.

During his visit he has purposes to collect:

a)   Current activities in these botanical gardens,

b)   Economic, scientific and easthetic contributions of these gardens to the city or county it depends,

c)   Collections of plant species and techniques of planting design

d)  Capacity of herbarium

While he is collecting those data, he is taking photos of botany plants in Europe particularly woody plants focusing on their habitus, leaves, flowers, fruits and if available, their shells. He uses these materials for the book that he has been prepared. He eager to know tropical plants. Therefore, general design decisions of tropical botanical gardens, especially Bogor Botanical Garden and Cibodas Botanical Garden are more important for his visit in this moment.

Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin had made appointment between Prof Mustafa with Sofi Mursidawati, M.Sc., a public relation of Bogor Botanical Garden to have a discussion regarding exchange materials and knowledge, in Friday morning. Before giving a general lecture, Prof. Mustafa was introduced to Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, Dean of Agriculture Faculty, IPB. Some academic topics, such as the possibility of student exchange, scientist exchange and join research were discussed.   Some faculty members, Dr Nurhayati HS Arifin (Faculty Secretary, Academic Affairs), Dr. Syarifah Aisyah (Faculty Secretary, Collaboration Affairs), Dr. Nizar Nasrullah (Secretary of Landscape Architecture Department), and Ahmad Arifin Hadi, MALA (lecturer) attended this meeting at 14:00 – 15:00 PM.
