Prof. Hadi Susilo ARIFIN, a head of  Landscape Management, Department of Landscape Architecture – IPB/Chair of Indonesian Association of Landscape Architecture Education (FPALI) who has been as visiting scholar in Michigan State University was accepted by Jon B. Burley, Ph.D. <burleyj@msu.edu>/Associate Professor in School of Planning, Design and Construction <http://spdc.msu.edu>.  The meeting agenda was initiation of join research/exchange students/faculty members etc. between SPDC-MSU and  Dept. ARL-IPB. Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin have been looking for the opportunity for faculty members of Dept. ARL IPB to hold Ph.D. program in MSU. According to this meeting results, SPDC-MSU has Ph.D. program in Environmental Design with a Berkeley Model. It’s an integrated program among Urban & Regional Planing, Horticulture, Geography, and Construction Management.  Four faculty members, i.e. Mr. Akhmad Arifin Hadi, Ms. Vera Dian Damayanti, Ms. Fitriyah Nurul Hidayati, and Mrs. Dewi Rezalini Anwar have possibilities to join the Ph.D. program on Fall 2011 if they get scholarship from Fullbright, USAID, or DGHE-National Ministry of Education, the Republic of Indonesia.

SPDC – MSU  has a yearly 8 week LA overseas study program.  In 2012  SPDC leads a group of LA students to  Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, France, Greece, and Turkey.  In 2013, it will lead a group of LA students to South Korea, and China.  Dr. Jon B. Burley could come an visit IPB in early May 2013 in Indonesia and give a lecture at Dep. ARL IPB.  If we can develop some cooperation together, in 2017 Dr. Burley could take the American students to 4 weeks in China and 4 weeks in Indonesia to work cooperatively with LA students in Indonesia.

Dr. Burley is the chair of the ASLA International PPN. He asked Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin to include a two page article concerning whatever topic Prof. Arifin wish about landscape architecture in Indonesia, with a couple of photos.  It will help to spread the word to others about landscape architecture in Indonesia.

By this meeting it has been confirmed that the general lecture of Prof. Hadi Susilo Arifin (“Urban Biodiversity in Indonesia” and “Landscape Architecture Education in Indonesia”) will be conducted in the first landscape architecture studio class, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 14:00 – 17:00 in Studio Room 304, Human Ecology Building, MSU Campus, East Lansing, Michigan.

The other lecturers who had joined to this meeting are Yan Yun-feng, Ph.D. <malus@vip.sina.com> and Qiu Bing, Ph.D. <qiubing@126.com> . They are visiting scholars in MSU, who are came from College of landscape Architecture, Nanjing Forestry University, China.
